Iruma Headcanons: The Teachers
Kalego: Sent each Misfit a care package in the mail after end of terminus exams. Denies it was him, but nobody else knows of the Misfits specific comforts other than him.
Robin: Swindles the hell out of his coworkers by pretending to be airheaded and locking in when it matters. He has been barred from playing poker, because they figured out he was counting cards.
Dali: Married to Suzy. Routinely organizes pranks on his coworkers, and directs the Student Drama Troupe in their plays. His flair for the dramatic has led many groups of students to fame beyond Babyls.
Suzy: Married to Dali. The teacher most attuned to the students, she reports back to the teachers lounge with all the latest gossip. Ameri and Iruma dating sent her into shambles, especially after the two help her out in the gardens every morning.
Buer: The teacher's peacekeeper. Kalego couldn't be trusted, because Buer ended up having to intervene anyways. Enjoys his job, but he'd love it if students stopped hurting each other needlessly.
Orias: Bears a grudge against Robin for consistently beating him at games of luck. Still cannot figure out the newbies trick, and hasn't found a game he can beat Robin at yet.
Momonoki: Every time she gets close to Kalego, her grandfather appears. She wonders how he manages that, especially because the last time involved him crossing half the country in minutes. Bought tickets to an opera that Kalego likes, and is steadily approaching the deadline to ask him. Plans are being cooked.
Balam: After the harvest festival, students realized he didn't want to experiment on them. He started making illustrated guides for anyone who asks, and has finally gained the reputation of kindness that he deserves.
Raim: She's taking life easy, but after seeing Elizabetta get two partners, she wants to see if she can find a partner of her own. Balam wasn't her type, and she got scared away from Kalego. Raim still feels chills every time she looks at Momonoki.
Vepar: She became Agares and Gaap's go to for any advice. Cried buckets when they had their first fight as a couple, and bumbled about endlessly before realizing that the solution was to lock them in a cage of water and make them talk it out.
Hatt: To Kerori's confusion, ended up assisting in managing her idol activities. He has propelled her sales further still, which is impressive.
Furfur: Shows up at Babyl's every now and then to try and fuck with all the Misfits. Jazz and Allocer always try to hold him off, and he ends up leaving before he can even get past them. Little do they know, they're playing right into his hand by letting him test them like this.
Bachiko: Brags about Iruma whenever she can, especially after seeing his performance at the Heartbreaker. She texts him advice every so often, including motivational posts she finds on the internet. Iruma gets a strange motherly vibe from these posts.

Last Monday of the Week 2024-11-11
Getting into situations
Listening: New job which means I have need for a quick and easy source of music that I can throw down on any device with internet while I figure out exactly where I draw the line on mixing personal music files with corporate hardware. Hence, soma.fm, a really good family of internet radio stations that I enjoy a lot.
There's several stations here but to call out ones I like in no particular order:
Beat Blender: Slower house music and electronica
Metal Detector: What it says on the tin, mixed metals
Sonic Universe: Weird jazz
Secret Agent: Normal jazz
SF 10-33: The San Francisco emergency radio broadcast channel mixed with ambient music
Vaporwaves: Look we all have to get stupid sometime
Watching: Movie Night was also a sort of belated Diwali Night because a friend of mine has been getting extremely into indian food, so we watched "Sita Sings the Blues", an 82 minute, Creative Commons, mostly one-woman animation project that is a retelling of the Ramayana and also a breakup jukebox jazz musical.
youtube
There's about 30 minutes of a decent movie in here and another 15-20 minutes of the breakup part that would be hard to cut since it's the reason it exists. It's an animation from 2008 and you can see that it's exactly what it needs to be to run on one person who knows Flash reasonably well. The "blues" part is because there's numerous musical segments that use pre-existing 1920's jazz numbers to set the tone which reportedly cost the author tens of thousands of dollars to license, and she's now a free culture advocate so this is how you get Cory Doctorows I guess.
Is it good? I mean there's some really good parts. The legend is delivered in the form of three shadow puppets half-remembering the story to put it together which is very endearing in a Bill Wurtz History Of Japan kind of way. The amount of effort on display for 2008 is enormous. The concept is impressive, in that you found all these songs, but you could have probably cut the songs and got this down to a tight 40.
Reading: Work! Documentation! Learning so much about [REDACTED]. Very weird not working in an open source company again.
Also started The Book of All Skies on the metro the other day, and have gotten to the end of the first act. Compelling! Love an Egan, one of very few authors who can put a topology lesson into a book without it sucking ass.
Making: Made Gulab Jamun for movie night. From spreading my diwali cooking over more than three days I'm learning that actually this shit is easy if you don't try to cram it all into three days. I should make this stuff more often.
Playing: Poking and fiddling with things a little. Still not in the headspace to pick up a full game again. Once I have a schedule I can get back into video games but when I don't have a schedule that includes video games.
Tools and Equipment: Keyd is the new-ish hotness for client-side remapping of keyboard keys. It's not quite a custom build, but it's close.
Allows you to get 99% of the way to whatever zany custom mapping you want under Linux with fairly universal coverage and minimal faff in a very compact and manageable package.

Mr. Cheapo’s (Commack) shopping list, 2018.
If there was one store that started it all for me, it was Mr. Cheapo’s. It was the first in a long line of mom-and-pop record stores that sold used titles. Brentwood’s Pine Hollow Video was the first store I went for all my hip-hop and rap CDs and cassettes, but realizing that my interest in music was growing, Mr. Cheapo’s showed me what potential was about. The first year of earning a paycheck was the same year I discovered this store. It was where I bought my first stack of used CDs notably from Pearl Jam, Marilyn Manson, and Filter, whose “Dose” promotional single would be the first-ever I’d buy. It’s been around for decades and hasn’t been renovated as long. It’s also the only record store on Long Island to have two locations: Commack and Mineola.
Cheapo’s is just like Talking Heads: same as it ever was. Nothing has changed except for its’ overall stock. New releases behind the counter, near-endless bins of new and used vinyl and CDs with a cassette wall nearing the back. What used to be shelves upon shelves of VHS tapes now have the most extensive used DVD and Blu-ray library of any store. Vintage and classic vinyl 12″ and 45′s were pinned up on the back walls. Boxsets, posters, other 45′s, music-related books, DVDs, and more rows of obvious titles on vinyl and CD made up the rest of the store’s real estate. And plenty of shelves of used pop CDs for $3 each. No. Thank. You.
I didn’t scan the entire store as I was uninterested in all those used pop CDs, so I go right to the jazz / fusion section as I always do. About seven to eight columns wide with another three for soul, funk, and R&B, they didn’t let me down. One, two, three Bob James albums; the stuff of samplists. Blackbyrds, George Benson, and Deodato were mine and so was Jon Lucien whose “A Sunny Day” stood as one of my most-played tracks of all time. Tough that wasn’t found on his Columbia’s Best Of… The Hubert Laws that I passed up a while ago? It’s back in the bin and I wouldn’t make the same mistake twice. What I also picked up was The Rolling StonesUndercover. Once in my possession, I decided to give it away to friend and collector Tommy when he found a dump of 500 records one of his customers threw out on the sidewalk.
A category I haven’t thumbed through in a minute was the hip-hop section, we’re not talking vinyl. For the first time in a while I scored some good titles on disc.Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth and Naughty By Nature were titles that’d be in my collection starting out in the Brentwood days. Jedi Mind Tricks because Vinnie Paz is real underground hip-hop. Got to have M.I.A. in my collection, too. Then I come across P.O.S. whose truly-innovative packaging with interchangeable transparent and solid panels with CMYK theme caught my eye. It harkened back to the pre-internet days of discovering certain artists you never knew existed by purchasing blind. An inquiry for anything Suicide led me to search through the punk bins where I found The Unseen. Watching The Blank Generation made me seeRichard Hell & The VoidoidsBlank Generation disc with bonus tracks in the bins but at first passed it up. Then I find the vinyl re-issue of the same album with live and alternatve versions for double the asking price. In that case, I ended up going for the disc version.
I rounded out my two-hour visit with other odds and ends. Other titles I bought for $2.00 and less were The Jerky Boys, Katt Williams, and Last Stop Standing, a record-shopping documentary. How fitting! Finally, I got a Paula Abdul cassette, one I used to have in my collection until my bro- misplaced it on me. Like I have to answer to any of you.
Blackbyrds, The Action
Deodato 2
Jon Lucien The Best Of…

I’ll be waiting for your commentaries on Doyoung youth documentary! I think you’re really gonna like a lot of the contents during this promotional era. Thankful that promotion nowadays are not just about going to variety shows. Thanks to social media, we got to see him appear to talk shows and see him talks more. We’re seeing more of Doyoung who is not part of NCT. His thought process, his interaction with people outside of his circle or out of his field. I can see he’s a lot more confident too. He really says ‘This is who I really am’ through this era (album-wise and personality-wise). Despite being ambitious he’s also aware that this album will not appeal to all due to people’s preference. But most important thing to him, he’s satisfied with it. I learnt a lot from him through this album. Once again, you’re really gonna enjoy it!!
*sobs* Yeah, only in June. I'm in a new country, and the prices for mobile internet are insane here. Plus there are complications with buying a package in the first place giving my location and lack of a credit card. I have to severely safe on data. Unlimited is not even an option.
I see that Doyoung goes on a lot of programmes where he can sing live. It's really great he has the opportunity to do now what he had been longing for for so long (remember how he complained about his parts in NCT songs? "I will do what I have to do"). All his patience and perseverance is paying off.
I think, it is extremely hard to wait for postponed gratification (when an idol starts to invest blood and tears since day one of a trainee life), to see other, younger people, making it or doing what you want to do (like freshly debuted groups achieving more awards than NCT), add to it the loom of enlistment over male idols. Fortunately, in comparison to poor Taeil, and even Taeyong to a degree, Doyoung lucked out with the debut time window. I'm really happy for him and for his fans.
I also suppose that he got a full album because he found those additional 3 songs himself (one he wrote, one from Lucy's guy, maybe Kenzie's or the one with Mark can be counted as the 3d). As it is less about money, and more about finding enough of good songs that can go together. The songs were collected over a long time as well (Tae had less than a year after Shalala).
I said before that I don't find idol Jaehyun interesting, he is bland to me. (His real self I'm sure I will like, what's with the love for arts, old things and jazz). Doyoung is a different case, but mostly because I invest in knowing him and see past his fake facade of a cute trembling bunny. The real Doyoung is tenfold more charming than his idol image that he developed over the years in apprehension of antis and not his NCT fans. After his shift in image (from savage) there always was a difference between what he allowed to show being in a group setting with other 127 members versus his communication with his own fans. With his fans he was more honest (Doyoung/Dongyoung divide, fake boyfriend pictures, etc). And as a soloist he is even more sincere. I'm looking forward to seeing him open up in those interviews (he will never be not self-censored, but still).
I thought yesterday about Doyoung's words about standing out. To me, he is a more unusual and rare individual than even Taeyong. I guess "tortured artist" is a well-explored personality, heh. There are many of them in the industry. Meanwhile a "tribal chief" could be more often found behind the scenes, not on the pop-stage. And if they exist, they are not "seen". The idol culture exposes artists, shows them from many sides, it is very different from how pop-scene is elsewhere.
Real Doyoung gives off a lot of energy. Active positive energy. Many idols are a subject of desire (sex appeal), adoration (cuteness) or empathy ("mistreatment"), not many are "class presidents" (Hanbin seems to be one, btw), those who push you.
I'm sorry, I'm rambling, but Do's chant guide cracked me up. It heavily reminded me how he persuaded his class to participate in a choir competetion and led them to win it.
Doyoung: "Repeat after me. You all emit light, you are all fireflies and stars, you are all kind and meant for great things. You are my support, I'm your support. If I can do it, you can do it. Do like me, do better than me. Sing with me."

I went to a rural fair today. When I say "rural," I mean this fair was out in the middle of nowhere: tiny main street, fast food and dollar stores, "LET'S GO BRANDON" merchandise, MLM booths, live country music blaring over the crowd--and yet, in the middle of MAGA country, I saw a girl walking around in a Rick and Morty shirt.
Clearly, that was a sign that it was time for the
🌽 Rural Fair Roundup ✨
Despite taking place in a right-wing area, the fair had a weird culture clash. Weed has gone mainstream, and I even found some LGBT merchandise. I guess smoking a little jazz cabbage isn't a sin anymore?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fair had about five different booths selling tumblers with stolen artwork. I kept an eye out, and sure enough, one booth in particular had some familiar faces:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next, I saw a stickers booth, and I knew what that meant.
Tumblr media
All the classics are here: "YOUR OPINION MEANS VERY LITTLE TO ME," "I'M NOT ARGUING I'M JUST EXPLAINING WHY I'M RIGHT," Rick and Morty flipping you off.
I wanted to open the package and see all the designs so badly, but I didn't want to pay for stickers I won't use. It's all stolen from the Internet anyway.
Tumblr media
And I found a Loki sticker a few booths away!
Tumblr media
I missed the county fairs this year, but I want to go again, and maybe even visit the state fair if I'm willing to drive three hours away. County fairs are so old-fashioned that you're surprised they still exist. Livestock auctions, tractor pulls, horseback riding shows--they even still have contests for the biggest squash.
But no squash today. Instead, I went to McDonald's and got the Loki meal 🍗
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Rick and Morty fan in me wanted to yell at the employees, jump on the counter and scream "ALLIGATOR LOKI!!!", grab sauce out of people's hands, say "Your opinion means very little to me," say "I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right," and flip people off until management throws me out...but somehow, I held back.
